
A knee replacement replaces worn joint surfaces with a metal and plastic implant. It is usually offered when pain and stiffness limit daily life and other treatments have not helped.
Before surgery you will attend an assessment clinic where we check your general health, explain the operation and plan your recovery at home.
Most patients stand with a physiotherapist the day after surgery and go home within two to three days. Expect to use a walking aid for a few weeks.
Full recovery takes three to six months. Following your exercise plan matters more than almost anything else you can do.
